Vintage Paso recently visited the 1122 Speakeasy Lounge in downtown Paso Robles. We showed up around 7 and thought we were early enough to get in and to get a table with out the long wait. We rang the door bell there was just one other couple in front of us waiting to get in. We figured it shouldn’t be that long of a wait since we were the only people waiting. The host answered through the small sliding slot in the door, and all we could see was his eyes. He asked how many in the our party? We replied and he said it will just be a few minutes. We were like perfect, thinking we would be admitted shortly.
Shortly afterwards the door opened and the host let the couple ahead of us in. 10 minutes go by and we are thinking it shouldn’t be long for us. Another 10 minutes go by and now we are starting to get annoyed by how long it’s been since the host told us it will just be a few minute. Finally the host opens the door and says we are ready to seat you now.
We walk into a lovely 1920 styled Speakeasy bar. It was small inside maybe about 40 people capacity. They sat us down at a skinny table just wide enough to comfortably hold the drinks we were about to order. Every person working in the speakeasy was a bartender/mixologist. Our mixoligist showed up to our tabled dressed in 1920 bartender clothes.
We were given a drink menu with all the drinks they offered. The drink menu had a lots of yummy specialty drinks which made it very hard to decide which ones we wanted to order. The mixologist came back a few minutes later and took our order. A couple of minutes later the mixologist arrives back with a cart and proceeds to put on a drink mixing show for our entertainment,
He broke out a small torch and begin to burn the small piece of hickory board on his cart. He then placed the bourbon glass over the smoking hickory board to catch the rising smoke to fill the glass, The concoction he made for me was a delightful mixture of bourbon and orange a very tasty Old Fashioned. In conclusion I highly recommend visiting and having a drink at the 1122 Speakeasy in Paso Robles. I look forward to my next visit there to order another one those yummy specialty drinks.
